Dr Clever Banda is a specialist paediatrician who will be consulting from our Practice from Monday 18 June 2018. He will be consulting once a week, usually on a Monday. Dr Banda obtained his medical degree in Zimbabwe and subsequently completed specialist paediatric training in Australia. He works as a staff specialist paediatrician at the Hervey Bay Hospital and has also been operating a private practice at another location in Hervey Bay which has recently closed. From June 2018, he will be moving premises and will continue to provide private paediatric services under the name Fraser Coast Paeds from the specialist consultation suites at the Main Street Medical Centre in Pialba.
Dr Banda moved to Australia in 2006 and trained in hospitals in Darwin, Brisbane,
Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Caboolture prior to moving to Hervey Bay. He completed most of his paediatric training through the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane (now Lady Cilento Children’s
Hospital).
He holds the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians from Edinburgh, Scotland. His other qualifications include Membership of
the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK), a Master in Public Health & Tropical Medicine from the James Cook University and a Diploma in Child Health from the University of
Sydney. He is near completion of a Master of Health Management degree through the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He is a Member of the Australasian College of Health Service
Management.
Dr Banda enjoys teaching and holds an academic title of Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland where he is actively involved in the teaching of medical students. He is also actively involved in the training of specialist paediatric trainees through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He was the winner of the Gold Teaching Award for the best teacher as nominated by Final Year medical students at the University of Queensland Hervey Bay Rural Clinical School over the past 2 consecutive years (2016 & 2017).
In his spare time, Dr Banda enjoys spending time with his family. He has young kids and relates well to the various challenges that parents face in bringing up children.
