Dr. Moe Thu is a highly experienced General Practitioner and RACGP Supervisor, dedicated to mentoring and training the next generation of GPs. With extensive experience in General Practice, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Dermatology, and Skin Cancer Medicine, he provides comprehensive and patient-focused care.

Dr. Thu completed his Bachelor of Medicine in Myanmar (formerly Burma) and has trained across multiple disciplines, allowing him to manage a wide range of medical conditions.


Special Interests

 

✔ Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery – Early detection, treatment, and advanced surgical techniques, including the excision of sebaceous cysts and lipomas.
✔ Chronic Disease Management – Supporting patients with diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory conditions.
✔ Diabetic Management – Comprehensive care for diabetes prevention, treatment, and long-term management.
✔ Children’s Health – Providing compassionate and preventive pediatric care.
✔ Surgical Procedures – Skilled in minor skin procedures, including wedge excision of ingrown toenails.

Dr. Thu has completed the following specialized skin cancer training:

Currently, he is undertaking an advanced course in skin cancer medicine to become a Skin Cancer College-recognized Skin Cancer Doctor.

 


Experience & Background

 

Dr. Thu’s medical career spans multiple countries, giving him exceptional surgical and clinical expertise:

🔹 Myanmar – Worked as a General Practitioner for nearly four years.
🔹 Jamaica – Spent five years specializing in Surgery and Casualty services, gaining hands-on surgical experience in excisions, wound management, and minor procedures.
🔹 Australia – Migrated to Tasmania in 2016, obtained his Australian Medical Council (AMC) Certificate, and completed two years of hospital rotations at North West Regional Hospital before moving to Hervey Bay for GP training and FRACGP fellowship.

As an RACGP Supervisor, Dr. Thu plays a vital role in mentoring GP registrars, providing guidance, clinical training, and hands-on experience to ensure high-quality healthcare for the community. His dedication to medical education helps shape the future of General Practice.

 


Outside of Work

 

When he’s not caring for patients or mentoring registrars, Dr. Thu enjoys spending time with his young son, who keeps him on his toes, and relaxing with movies.
