Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health checks (MBS 715) can be claimed once every 9 months. Menopause and perimenopause health assessment services (MBS 695/19000) are claimable once every 12 months for eligible symptomatic patients.
What is the new menopause and perimenopause health assessment service?
From 1 July 2025, Medicare introduced items 695 and 19000 for menopause and perimenopause health assessment services for eligible patients experiencing symptoms. This structured appointment covers vasomotor symptoms (hot flushes), mood and sleep changes, bone health, cardiovascular risk, and a management plan. It can also include discussion of Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) where appropriate. Dr Ramani Poonehela has a special interest in menopause care and draws on guidance from the Australasian Menopause Society.
Do I need to prepare for my health assessment?
We recommend bringing a list of current medications and any recent results you have. For some assessments, your GP may request blood tests before or after your appointment — our team will advise you when booking.
What happens after my health assessment?
Your GP will develop a personalised plan outlining any identified risks and recommended actions. This may include lifestyle advice, referrals, follow-up pathology, or monitoring. If ongoing coordination is needed, a GP chronic condition management plan may be discussed.
