Skin Spot Check – Quick & Focused Skin Assessment
Noticed a new skin spot or mole? Concerned about changes in an existing one? At Main Street Medical Centre & Skin Clinic, you don’t have to wait for your next full-body skin
check—our GPs offer a Skin Spot Check to assess one specific area of concern, with a maximum of 4 skin
lesions anywhere on the body. If you have a mole, spot, or skin lesion you're worried about, book an
appointment for a professional assessment.
What to Look Out For
We all have skin spots and moles, but it’s important to recognize the signs of potential skin cancer. Keep an eye out for:
- Crusty, sore, or non-healing spots
- Small lumps that are red, pale, or pearly in color
- New spots, freckles, or moles that are changing in size, shape, or color
- Thickening or irregular borders on existing spots
What Happens During Your Spot Check?
-
Focused Skin Assessment: A GP will thoroughly examine the specific spot or mole in question. The time allocated for this appointment will be approximately 8 minutes.
-
Biopsy Referral if Needed: If the lesion appears suspicious, your GP will book a separate appointment for a biopsy.
-
Further Treatment Options: If a full excision is required, you will be asked to return for a longer appointment to allow time for the procedure and ensure
access to treatment room facilities and a Registered Nurse.
-
Plastic Surgeon Referral: For lesions in cosmetically sensitive areas (such as the face), our GPs can refer you to a Plastic Surgeon if needed.
Fast & Reliable Results
If a biopsy or excision is performed, the sample is sent for histology examination, with results typically available within three business days. You will be
contacted by the GP or nurse with your results and next steps.
